An early representation of the structure of the atom, created by Niels Bohr. It combines the Rutherford "miniature universe" model of the atom with the concept of preferred orbits for electrons, which accounted for the quantum behavior of the electrons of an atom. In the Bohr model it is assumed that electron can only orbit the nucleus of an atom when it has an angular momentum that is an integer multiple n of h/2, where h is Plank's constant. Electromagnetic radiation is emitted when an electron transitions from one orbit to another instantaneously, with the frequency of the light being equal to E/h..

BOHR MODEL: "The Bohr Model is one of the earlier atomic models."
