Electronic component which has capacitance; typically formed by thin conductors which are separated by a dielectric such as a vacuum, waxed or oiled paper, glass, mica, fused ceramic, plastic foil, air, or any number of others. The dielectric determines the maximum potential difference tolerance by its electrical breakdown. Formerly called a condenser.

CAPACITOR: "The capacitor stored the charge for several hours."
