C2H40. Bp 13-5'C. A mobile colourless liquid of ethereal odour, obtained by distilling 2- chloroethanol with concentrated potassium hydroxide. Manufactured direcdy from ethylene and oxygen in the presence of a catalyst. Very useful organic intermediate in the manufacture of solvents, detergents etc. Can also be used as a sterilizing medium in the gaseous state,
