What is INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE?

A narrow, low latitude zone in which air masses originating in the northern and southern hemispheres converge. Over the Atlantic and Pacific oceans it is the boundary between the northeast and southeast trade winds. The mean position is somewhat north of the equator but over the continents the range of movement is considerable. It is a zone of generally cloudy, showery weather. Abbrev ITCZ. Also intertropical front 1TF.
