What is MINING?

Process of extracting metallic or non- metallic mineral deposits, including gemstones, from below the Earth's surface. Mine is a subterranean excavation unlike quarry, pit and opencast which are reserved for workings open to daylight. Mining methods are devised for each deposit, so there are many variations but common terms are shown in the figure; some of them may be of considerable antiquity. Fig. <]
