What is MORTAR?

A pasty substance formed normally by the mixing of cement, sand and water, or cement, lime-sand and water in varying proportions. Used normally for the binding of brickwork or masonry. It is thixotropic and its working life can be extended by addition of soap solutions. Hardens on setting and forms the bond between the bricks or stones.
