Reaction centre in photosynthesis comprising chlorophyll a, as P700, and other pigments and molecules, in which energy absorbed as light is used to transfer electrons from a weak oxidant to a strong reduc- tant. The latter either reduces ferredoxin and ultimately NADP or is used in cyclic photophosphorylation. Abbrev PSl.
