What is PLANT CELL CULTURE?

The culture of explants, ie cells, tissues or organs from plants, under aseptic conditions in or on a sterile growth medium typically containing sugars, as an energy and carbon source, mineral salts and growth substances, sometimes solidified with eg agar. Cells in an explant will grow and divide indefinitely in an appropriate medium. Depending on the conditions, cell growth and division may be more or less disorganized, forming individual cells or clumps of mosdy parenchyma cells with litde differentiation callus cultures on solid media and suspension cultures in liquid media.
