What is POSITIVE ION?

An atom or a group of atoms which are molecularly bound which has lost one or more electrons, eg the alpha particle, which is a helium atom less its two electrons. In an electrolyte, the positive ions cations produced by dissolving ionic solids in a polar liquid like water, have an independent existence and are attracted to the cathode. Negative ions likewise are those which have gained one or more electrons,
