What is RIGHT ASCENSION?

One of the two co-ordinates, used with declination for specifying position on the celestial sphere in the equatorial co-ordinate system. It is the angular distance measured eastwards along the celestial equator from the vernal equinox to the intersection of the hour circle passing through the body ie the celestial equivalent of longitude. Its units are hours, minutes and seconds, and one hour of right ascension is 15
