A particle that mediates the weak interaction; symbol Z; mass 94GeV; charge zero; spin 1; decays to an electron plus positron, or a muon plus antimuon. Predicted by the Weinberg-Salam theory, it was discovered in 1983 in proton-antiproton collisions at CERN in Geneva.
