1. A small cavity in the body wall of Platyhelminthes into which genital ducts of male and female open. 2. The section in the heart of Mollusca which receives oxygenated blood from the gills and pumps it to the ventricle. It also plays the role in excretion, by filtering the waste products from the blood. 3. A chamber of the heart in vertebrates that receives blood from the veins and pumps it to the ventricles. Fish have one while other vertebrates have two atria.
