What is CATHODE?

Terminal or electrode whereby electrons enter into a system, as in an electrolytic cell or electron tube. In any source of direct current (as a battery). The cathode is the positive terminal in any source of direct current (as a battery). It is the negative terminal in a passive load. In an electron tube (cathode-ray tube), electrons stream off the cathode, traveling through the tube toward the anode. It is the negative terminal at the pointed end of the arrow symbol in a diode, where current flows out of the device.

CATHODE: "Cathode ray tubes are now obsolete."
