What is LYMAN SERIES?

One of the hydrogen series occurring in the extreme ultraviolet region of the spectrum. The series may be represented by the formula where n=2, 3, A,... see Balmer series, the series limit being at wavenumber N= 109 678, which corresponds to wavelength 91-26 nm. The leading line, called Lyman alpha, has a wavelength of 121-57 nm, and is important in upper atmosphere research, as it is emitted strongly by the Sun.
