A disease of pigs caused by infection by Erysipelothrix insidiosa E. rhusiopathiae. The acute form of the disease is a septicaemia characterized by fever, urticaria-like patches on the skin and sometimes lameness due to arthritis; in the chronic form endocarditis occurs. Vaccines and antisera widely used. Also diamond-skin disease.
