What is THEORETICAL STRENGTH?

Estimate of the strength of any material from atomic/molecular data. For example it can be done for oriented polymer chains using molecular data such as Morse equation for the intermolecular potential energy. Calculation for high-density polyethylene gives a theoretical strength along the chains of 31 GPa. See theoretical stiffness and panel on High-performance polymers.
